A brick cottage for five on the shore of Mydlák pond near Hluboká nad Vltavou. Rowing boat, fireplace, jetty and the quiet of South Bohemia — all included.
The brick cottage was built forty-five years ago and completely renovated in 2017. Anglers have their water right behind the fence, children a shallow shore in front of the house, and everyone else a terrace, a rowing boat and a view you never get tired of.
No reception, no neighbours behind the wall. For the length of your stay the whole cottage is yours.
The ground floor is for living together — a lounge with a fireplace, kitchen and bathroom. The attic is for sleeping: two wood-clad bedrooms, the larger with a balcony overlooking Mydlák.

Lounge with a fireplace
A brick fireplace, a yellow armchair, a blue sofa and windows with the pond behind them. Firewood is included, so is the TV — though we doubt you will switch it on.

A kitchen for the whole crew
Induction hob, fan oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, kettle and crockery for five. Drinking water is in a canister on the fridge; well water is for washing.

Two bedrooms under the roof
Each with two beds and wood panelling that smells of pine. The larger bedroom opens onto a balcony above the water. A fifth guest sleeps on the extra bed.
04 / Ground floor
Bathroom
A shower with geometric tiles, toilet and washbasin. After a day on the water exactly what you need — and nothing to keep you from the terrace.

Terrace, steps into the water and a boat
The paved terrace runs into stone steps that lead straight into the pond. The rowing boat is free to use, as are the fire pit and the grill. The plot is fenced and you park right by the house.

In front of the cottage it is rather shallow — ideal for children and for the first dip of the morning. Mute swans, mallards, greylag geese, coots, great crested grebes and night herons nest here. With a little luck you will spot a spoonbill or a kingfisher.
Life on the pond
Whatbitesandwhonestshere
What bites · cycles automatically
Common carp
Cyprinus carpio
Typical size
2–8 kg, occasionally over 15 kg
When it bites
May – October, best at dawn and dusk
Bait
boilies, sweetcorn, particles, bread crust on the surface
Where to look
shallows by the reeds and the drop-offs
Tip from the shore: Pre-bait one spot two days ahead – carp get used to a regular table.
Grass carp
Ctenopharyngodon idella
Typical size
3–10 kg
When it bites
June – September, in warm water
Bait
sweetcorn, lupin, floating pellets, plant baits
Where to look
near water plants, just under the surface on hot days
Tip from the shore: They pull hard on the take – keep the clutch loose and the net ready.
Silver carp
Hypophthalmichthys molitrix
Typical size
5–20 kg
When it bites
July – August, the hottest days
Bait
stiff surface paste, plankton mixes
Where to look
open water in the middle of the pond
Tip from the shore: A plankton feeder that ignores classic baits – a speciality rather than a routine catch.
Wels catfish
Silurus glanis
Typical size
5–30 kg, bigger ones live here too
When it bites
June – September, mostly at night
Bait
bunch of worms, dead bait, squid, large pellets
Where to look
deep water near snags and old roots
Tip from the shore: Night fishing: strong tackle, a stiff rod and a lot of patience.
Northern pike
Esox lucius
Typical size
2–8 kg
When it bites
September – February, in cold water
Bait
crankbaits, spinners, soft lures, dead bait
Where to look
edges of the reeds and the shallow-to-deep margin
Tip from the shore: A wire trace is a must – pike teeth cut through any line.
Zander
Sander lucioperca
Typical size
1–5 kg
When it bites
September – November, at dusk
Bait
soft lures on a jig head near the bottom, dead bait
Where to look
deeper water with a hard bottom
Tip from the shore: Takes are subtle – watch the rod tip lift and strike right away.
Perch
Perca fluviatilis
Typical size
0.2–1 kg
When it bites
all year, best in autumn
Bait
small twisters, worms, tiny crankbaits
Where to look
around jetties, roots and sunken branches
Tip from the shore: They hunt in shoals – where you catch one, there are usually more.
Nesting here
